What we think we are or believe we are is true. This has been proven scientifically. Our neural pathways in our brains create our thought patterns and once these pathways have been created they are bound to be repeated. This is because as we repeat thoughts it decreases the biochemical resistance to that thought happening again. This makes those connections between the brain cells along that neural pathway stronger, causing you to return to the familiar.
If you were raised or lived in an environment where you were constantly being belittled or made to feel unworthy, you will, in general, have negative images about yourself. We can then become our own worst enemy and critic, blaming ourselves and comparing ourselves to others.
